Vaisala’s maritime weather instruments and observation systems for vessel navigation are unmatched due to our technology and manufacturing methods. They are designed by top scientists and engineers, and our sensors are built in our own clean room and calibrated in our accredited calibration facilities before delivery. They are tested in the most demanding port and offshore environments from pole to pole, so that you can rely on them for safe ship navigation.

Vaisala’s proprietary Weather Observation System is based on our reliable sensor technology and Maritime Weather Station, which is designed specifically for marine environments.
The Maritime Weather Station from Vaisala enables flexible and user-friendly data collection, communication, and reporting of weather information. It integrates all needed instruments into a single weather station with versatile powering, communication, and calculation options. Enhanced by Vaisala’s Maritime Observation Console Software, the data you collect can easily be viewed and studied from an on-board workstation with user-configurable displays.
Integrated bridge systems
Sudden changes in wind speed or direction are potentially dangerous and may have severe consequences on ship navigation. Therefore, accurate, real-time wind observation data is vital for keeping the vessel on its course. Vaisala’s wind sensors and displays are easy to integrate with your ship's bridge systems and processes, to support efficient and timely decision-making in maritime operations.
Vaisalaprovides a wide range of accurate, reliable, and robust wind sensors for demanding weather conditions and applications. Our ultrasonic wind sensors are an excellent alternative to the cup and vane mechanical sensors. Ultrasonic sensors contain no moving parts and are virtually maintenance-free. A heated model is also available. As a testament to their reliability, the US National Weather Service relies on Vaisala’s ultrasonic technology.
To ensure the safety of navigation, the International Marine Organization (IMO) is developing new provisions and performance standards on wind measuring equipment. Vaisala’s wind sensors and indicators are designed to fulfill the IMO criteria.
